Art is Cathartic to me - The restlessness of a particular emotion drives me to paint. I try to explore new possibilities of visual through color, form, composition, texture, medium or subject matter in every painting. Various mediums like charcoal, ink, pastels, watercolors and acrylics each lend their flexibility and uniqueness to the expression and need of the subject or painting.

 

My current works deal with the various concerns related to sexuality. Along with the insecurities, fear, uncertainty, suppression, desire, shame, joy, fulfillment and demands; they also intend to celebrate sexuality as normal and acknowledge its positive relevance in one’s life. Sexuality plays a large role in shaping our self-confidence, self-perception and our ability to love/ accept ourselves.

Art gives me a platform to handle the conflicts with my own self - distinguish between actual-image and projected image, natural desire and sophistication. The constant effect of surroundings and entrapment in conventional life is often eased out through the act of creation in the form of freedom and liberation.

Many a times the subject is viewed from various perspectives using metaphors, symbols, resembling visuals, suggestive references and emotions emerging out of daily routine and chores.

I have treated this process as meditation to understand the deeper meaning of life. The process of contemplation of every aspect of my life – whether emotional, spiritual, mental, physical or sexual – helps me stay unaffected by the other uncertainties of life. I feel safe, secured and in complete command of myself when I look inward and become aware of my conscious and sub-conscious feelings.
